Gold Award Project - Lauren G
the importance of gun safety
Today, guns are more prevalent than ever. Especially in this age, knowing how to be safe while handling and storing guns is important for everyone to know.
about the project
I'm Lauren, a Girl Scout of 11 years and counting. When I started my freshman year of high school, I joined the school's NJROTC program, and through it I tried out for and got in to the Marksmanship team. I realized that guns aren't inherently scary, but the tragedies that happen due to them are still widespread. Many of these tragedies occurred due to a lack of safety and security.
My project addresses the issue of gun safety through this website, the attached videos, and 2 built rifle racks with a safety lock, all working with my marksmanship team and other volunteers. The website and videos go through safety protocol and storage basics, while the rifle racks demonstrate proper storage, especially since my team's old racks were wearing down.
Girl Scouts has been a huge part of my life and has enabled and supported me and thousands of other girls to give back to the community.

Special thanks to my project advisor, my Gold Award mentors, my volunteers, and the Troy NJROTC Marksmanship team for helping me throughout this project!
